Wildcraft
Safety

Read this before you forage.

Wildcraft is built safety-first, but the most important safeguard is you. These are the rules that keep it safe to use.

  1. 01

Wildcraft is informational, not medical advice

Nothing here diagnoses, treats, or cures anything. It is a guide to help you know more before you forage — never a replacement for a doctor, a pharmacist, or emergency services. If a situation is serious, stop reading and get real help.

  2. 02

Identify with zero doubt, or not at all

A plant is only safe when you can name it with certainty. Use at least three independent field marks for any plant that has a deadly lookalike, and never rely on a single photo or memory. When in doubt, do not touch, do not taste, do not use.

  3. 03

    Deadly lookalikes deserve extra caution

The same field can hold a plant that helps and a near-identical one that kills. Learn the distinguishing marks on the Deadly lookalikes page before you trust your eyes. Some toxins (like hemlock) absorb through skin.

  4. 04

Pregnant, breastfeeding, or on medication? Treat every entry as off-limits

Many plants interact dangerously with pregnancy, nursing, and prescription drugs. If any of these apply to you, do not self-treat with any plant — ask a qualified professional first.

  5. 05

Carry real help into the backcountry

Always carry a satellite communicator or a way to call for rescue when you are far from care. Plants are a last resort, not a first one. Knowing how to signal for help matters more than knowing any remedy.

  6. 06

    Your privacy is protected

This site does not collect personal data, store your location, or run analytics. Coordinates you share for the map are used in your browser only, to estimate which plants grow near you, and are never sent anywhere.

In an emergency, contact local emergency services or poison control immediately. Wildcraft is not a substitute for trained medical care.
